June 10-12, 2009
Washington, D.C.
Willa Bruckner and Andrea Wolfman participated in this conference hosted by Infocast.  Willa presented "FERC and CFTC: What the Evolving Regulatory Framework Means for Gas Trading Compliance Programs" on June 10. Her presentation examined the overlap and coordination between FERC and CFTC regarding gas trading and how their priorities affect compliance. Andrea presented "How to Respond to an Enforcement Proceeding" on June 11.  Her panel discussed their experiences dealing with a FERC action and the valuable lessons that were learned.

A strong regulatory compliance culture is an essential aspect of organizations in the natural gas industry. Failure to properly comply and account for regulated actions can lead to a FERC action.  Such an investigation will distract from a firm’s goals and could potentially lead to strong and costly sanctions, even if violations are clearly unintentional.  A strong compliance culture must be created. Cultivating a culture that will protect the organization cannot be accomplished without understanding the issues involved and executing a detailed plan of action. This conference provided expert advice on creating a strong compliance culture, insight into the latest enforcements trends and what can be done if action is taken against a company.
