Katie Bitting is a patent agent with an extensive background in small-molecule organic chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology. Before joining Alston & Bird, Katie was an assistant professor of chemistry at the West Virginia State University, where she taught organic chemistry courses and performed research. Her research focused on methods of C-H functionalization to install alkyne and azide moieties as biorthogonal “click-chemistry” handles. Katie was also a postdoctoral researcher in immunology at the North Carolina State University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she conducted research in translational medicine focused on allergic diseases.
Katie graduated from Sweet Briar College, summa cum laude, with honors degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology. Katie then went on to receive her Ph.D. in chemistry with a certificate in college teaching from Duke University.
