- Defended a medical device company and obtained denial of the plaintiff’s motion for preliminary injunction, and later permanent injunction, on patents relating to medical devices.
- Represented a pharmaceutical company in a jury trial on damages. The case settled favorably following closing statements.
- Defended a computer software company in a de facto bet-the-company case relating to protection of data in databases. The case settled favorably during trial.
- Represented a software company in a case relating to software for creating and managing websites. Successfully obtained a partial summary judgement and the case favorably settled a few weeks before trial.
- Defended an investment bank against allegations of infringement of seven patents relating to deposit-sweep services. Resulted in favorable settlements for the clients on the eve of trial.
- Represented a consumer electronics company in a case involving 19 patents relating to plasma display panel technology. Resulted in a favorable settlement for the client.
- Represented an Ivy League university in a jury trial that resulted in a verdict for the university and a damages award of $184 million. The university also prevailed at a bench trial relating to inequitable conduct and other non-jury issues.

Olivia Kim is an accomplished trial lawyer concentrating in complex patent litigation with significant experience in examining and cross-examining critical lay and expert witnesses. She leads teams through all stages of litigation, including claim construction briefing and hearings, inventor and expert depositions and expert reports, the drafting and negotiation of settlement agreements, and substantive and discovery motion practice. Her trial experience involves various technologies from pharmaceuticals to computer hardware and software, including AI and machine learning, biotechnology, clinical testing, medical devices, biometric sensors, computer processor architecture, graphical user interfaces, internet payment systems, mobile phone systems, network security, and plasma display panels.
Olivia has received recognition for her excellence in legal practice, including the Daily Journal: Top Intellectual Property Attorneys in California (2017), by the IAM Patent 1000 as a leading patent litigator in 2025, and by Managing IP as an IP Star in 2017–2018 and 2025.
Before starting her legal career, Olivia performed research in immunology and physiology laboratories at UCLA and co-authored papers on immune responses in diabetic mice and methods for membrane protein purification.
