Tracy Yao

• Defended a health care corporation in class actions in multiple jurisdictions alleging invasion of privacy based on the use of website analytic tools.
• Defended a financial institution against antitrust conspiracy claims brought by a putative class of California debit and credit card holders.
• Defended a telecommunications company in two putative class actions alleging violations of the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA).
• Counseled a major grocery company facing privacy claims under various California consumer protection statutes.
• Represented and advised a shopping center with claims alleging violation of California’s automated license plate reader law.
• Represented a property and casualty insurance company facing claims under CIPA.

Tracy Yao focuses her practice on commercial litigation. A significant amount of Tracy’s work involves defending businesses facing consumer class actions brought under various state and federal privacy laws. Tracy represents clients across a broad range of industries, including health care, financial services, food and beverage, and telecommunications.

Tracy previously clerked for the Hon. Rita F. Lin in the Northern District of California and the Hon. Sheila K. Oberto in the Eastern District of California. She also served as a deputy attorney general as part of the California Attorney General’s Honors Program upon graduating from law school.

Tracy earned her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law. While in law school, Tracy served as a submissions editor and staff editor of the Journal of Law & Technology. Tracy earned her B.A., cum laude, in legal studies and politics from Scripps College.
