With more than 664 million people living in 33 countries and speaking some 450 languages, Latin America is an increasingly important global market. In recent years, such sectors as e-commerce, fintech, and renewable energy have shown tremendous growth potential, and the region leads the world in venture financing. 

This level of both complexity and change has created an increasing need for legal services across Latin America, and as a full-service international firm, Alston & Bird has met the challenge—in many markets, across numerous industries. For example, we’ve advised a major producer of fertilizer on U.S. sanctions laws and worked with a major chemical supplier on international supply contract and labor matters. We’ve helped a wireless paging company become Latin America’s largest provider of wireless paging services while facilitating its expansion and acquisitions in Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil. And we’ve represented a leading private investment firm in its acquisition of a large and fast-growing internet service provider at the same time that we’ve shepherded cross-border joint ventures to enhance telecommunications services. 

We’ve worked with a U.S. specialty vehicle manufacturer to draft technology licensing, distribution, and manufacturing agreements in Mexico, Brazil, and Costa Rica. And we’ve represented Bahamian corporate owners in the sale of franchise rights for theme restaurants in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and the Bahamas to a Mexican public company. 

We’ve helped facilitate project financing for mining operations in Brazil and handled arbitration involving construction of a highway in Trinidad & Tobago. We’ve advised on matters related to credit card processing, e-payment platforms, and commercial card issuance. 

In addition, we’ve helped U.S. companies prosecute and enforce trademark and copyright matters in Latin America while also helping Latin American firms navigate such U.S. agencies as the International Trade Commission and the Department of Commerce.
