Meet Julie Mediamolle - Washington, D.C. Hiring Partner

MEET THE HIRING PARTNERS

  1. Why did you choose to practice law and how did you decide to practice in your particular area of law?

I didn’t know that I wanted to be a lawyer until after I graduated from undergraduate school. Once I learned that I could pursue a career in business law it seemed like the right fit given my personality and strengths. As a corporate lawyer, I get to work closely with a variety of clients to assist them in achieving their business goals. It is a fast paced and every changing practice, which keeps things interesting. I also like being able to collaborate with my colleagues outside of my area of expertise in addressing client needs.

  2. What do you like best about being Hiring Partner?

I enjoy meeting and talking to students as they embark on their legal career. I like collaborating with the hiring team to find, attract and retain attorneys who will have a positive impact on the firm’s culture.

  3. In your opinion, what makes Alston & Bird a great place to work?

The short answer is the people. I am lucky to work with great people that are friendly, intelligent and supportive. Some of my closest friends today are co-workers.

  4. If there was one piece of (career) advice you could provide to a law student, what would it be?

I would tell a law student to develop a strong work ethic. It is important for a new associate to be curious and show a willingness to learn. I would also remind students to be sure to take care of their mental and physical health.

  5. What was the most memorable recruiting experience for you personally as a law student?

The bonds I created with my summer associate class were very special. We were a close group and many of us remain in touch to this day despite having moved on to new jobs and cities.

  6. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I like to stay active whether that is going on a hike, talking a walk or riding a bike. I also like to cook, go to concerts and cheer on my favorite sports teams.

  7. What is your favorite quote?

“Kindness is one thing you can’t give away. It always comes back.”— George Skolsky

  8.  Who inspires you and why?

My parents inspire me. They instilled in me and my three siblings the importance of working hard, being grateful for our opportunities and giving back to the community.
