Jon Fee was the guest speaker for this seminar hosted by the Atlanta Customs Brokers Association. The seminar focused on three trade programs:.
-
Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) - a good example of a NAFTA-based free trade agreement
-
Bahrain Free Trade Agreement - a good example of a hybrid program, borrowing concepts from NAFTA and the GSP
-
Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) - a good example of a unilateral trade preference program
CAFTA and AGOA account for substantial import activity in Atlanta and other ports in the Southeast. Understanding these programs gives brokers and importers a good background in the use and requirements of the many U.S. free trade agreements and trade preference programs available to U.S. importers. Jon will also share his thoughts on pending free trade agreements that have not yet been finalized and on the outlook in Congress for other trade-related initiatives. A morning and an afternoon option for the seminar was offered.
