Scams & Fraud
As scams and other fraudulent activities occur with increasing frequency and sophistication, sometimes the names of law firms – including Alston & Bird LLP – are misused in deceptive and misleading ways. Recent examples of such scams have included:
- copyright infringement claims designed to coerce the recipient to pay a fine
- invoice payment requests attempting to trick the recipient to pay a fraudulent invoice or redirect payment to an inappropriate account
To Help Manage Your Risk
- Pay close attention to signs of unusual or suspicious communications.
- Authentic email messages from Alston & Bird are sent from the “alston.com” domain.
- Alston & Bird does not send any business communication from a personal email domain such as Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook.
- For assistance determining whether a message is trustworthy, please:
- Reach out to a known/verified Alston & Bird contact if you have an existing business relationship with Alston & Bird.
- Contact us before taking action in response to a suspicious message (if possible, include the original suspicious email as an attachment – as opposed to forwarding the message to us).
- Report the fraudulent message to the email provider from which it originated:
- For Gmail, visit the Gmail Help page: Report abuse from a Gmail account.
- For Yahoo, forward the fraudulent message to Yahoo Abuse.
- For Outlook, forward the fraudulent message to Outlook Abuse.
- Report suspicious communications to your organization’s IT department.
