John Hickman presented "What Employers Need to Know About Health Care Reform - Now!" on November 11, 9:30am-10:30am, during this conference sponsored by M. Lee Publishers LLC. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is arguably the most far-reaching piece of social legislation passed since Medicare and Medicaid. Although many of the law's provisions don't go into effect until 2014, several are scheduled to kick in almost immediately. John's session covered the legislation's most immediate provisions and what they mean for employers and employees. The following topics were presented during his session.
- Immediate tax credits available under the law
- How coverage restructions, such as prohibitions against annual and lifetime benefit caps and pre-existing conditions exclusions, will affect group health care plans
- How the new extended dependent coverage will impact companies' plans
- New nondiscrimination rules for fully insured health plans
- New W-2 reporting requirements for employers
- Limitations on over the counter drug reimbursements
- Other new tax rules
