Alston & Bird’s California Diversity Committee hosted a special 1-hour CLE program and cocktail reception on Thursday, January 19, 2012. Erwin Chemerinsky, Dean and Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, was the guest speaker for the program.  Dean Chemerinsky is one of the nation’s top experts in Constitutional law, federal practice, civil rights and civil liberties, and appellate litigation. He is the author of seven books, the latest being The Conservative Assault on the Constitution (Simon & Schuster, 2010), which was named one of the top 10 nonfiction books of the year by Slate. His casebook, Constitutional Law, is one of the most widely read law textbooks in the country. Dean Chemerinsky has also written nearly 200 law review articles in journals throughout the nation. In addition, he writes regular columns on the Supreme Court for a wide variety of newspapers and magazines. Mr. Chemerinsky also frequently argues appellate cases, including in the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals, and he regularly serves as a commentator on legal issues for national and local media.
