This session will provide an overview of the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act’s (“FIRPTA”) impact on the taxation of financial products. After completing this session, participants will be able to:
- Determine when a debt instrument is considered a U.S. real property interest
- Recognize situations where a stock is considered a U.S. real property interest
- Use the special rules for investments by foreign sovereigns in stocks, bonds, or other domestic securities
