Continuing the expansion of its Washington, D.C., office, Alston & Bird has announced the arrival of Scott Pivnick, an intellectual property litigator, and Andrew Kay, a complex commercial and securities litigator, as partners in the firm.
Scott Pivnick
Scott Pivnick joins the firm as a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Previously, he was a partner with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and served as head of their intellectual property practice in Washington, D.C. He is highly experienced in a broad range of intellectual property disputes, especially in the federal courts for the Eastern District of Texas, the Eastern District of Virginia, the D.C. District and before the International Trade Commission. Scott also brings unique experience as a former trial and appellate attorney in the Justice Department’s Commercial Litigation Branch.
Scott’s specific experience lies in litigating complex patent disputes for clients in a number of different technologies, including medical devices, multi-media devices, noise reduction headsets, motorized vehicle equipment, LCD monitors and televisions, air-powered tools, computer chip fabrication, fiber optic communications equipment and remote image capture devices, among others. In addition, he has significant experience in copyright, trade dress and trade secret disputes in various U.S. District Courts and arbitration forums.
Scott received his J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School, after which he clerked for The Honorable Eric G. Bruggink of the United States Court of Federal Claims. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut.
Andrew Kay
Andrew Kay joins the firm as a partner in the firm’s Litigation and Trial Practice Group, as well as the Securities Litigation Group. His practice is concentrated in commercial, financial services and securities litigation.
Formerly a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Andrew Kay has successfully litigated a wide range of matters in federal and state courts throughout the country that involved breach of contract and fraud claims, trade secret misappropriation, financial services-related matters, consumer class actions, securities fraud and derivative lawsuits. He also counsels clients in related matters and in government investigations. He has handled matters in the following industries: financial services, mortgage lending, insurance, telecommunications equipment, medical devices, specialty chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, computer software, power generation, and commercial and military aircraft.
Kay received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School, where was elected to the Order of the Coif and was an editor of the Michigan Law Review. Following law school, he clerked for The Honorable Joel M. Flaum of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He received his B.A. from Cornell University.
