Senator Bob Dole Honored by World Food Program USA

Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, special counsel in the firm’s Washington, D.C. Legislative & Public Policy Group, on December 11 received the World Food Program USA’s newly christened George McGovern and Bob Dole Leadership Award, presented by Vice President Joe Biden for Senator Dole’s work over the last forty years combatting hunger around the globe.

In the 1970s, McGovern and Dole served together on the Senate Hunger and Human Needs Committee, through which they worked to make food stamps easier to get and use and curb fraud of the program. They expanded the U.S. school lunch program and helped create the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children.

The bipartisan pair’s work continued on past retirement from office. They founded the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Fund, which has fed 22 million children in 41 countries.
