Justice Betty Weinberg Ellerin, senior counsel in the firm’s Litigation & Trial Practice Group, has been honored by the New York State Bar Association with its 2015 Distinguished Jurist Award.
The award recognizes judicial excellence on the bench and extraordinary commitment to the rule of law.
Ellerin served more than 20 years as an Appellate Division jurist. She was the first woman appointed as Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for the courts of New York City. She was also the first woman appointed Associate Justice and later Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division (First Department) of the New York State Supreme Court. She is a founding member and director of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York and a recipient of New York Law Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
The 74,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
