A class action lawsuit in New York has been filed against Uber on the heels of a federal judge granting class action status to California drivers. The plaintiffs are seeking to represent anyone who has driven for Uber in New York since 2009.
Jim Evans, partner in Alston & Bird’s Labor and Employment Group in Los Angeles, said he expects a “tsunami” of misclassification suits against Uber and similar companies in the wake of the California ruling.
“There are many companies that outsource to augment their employment needs that are likely to be the target of misclassification suits and actions by regulators,” Evans said.
