Aden Draper focuses on patent drafting and patent prosecution in the firm’s Mechanical Patent Group. He has a B.A. from Agnes Scott College in physics and mathematics (2006) and an M.S. (2009) and Ph.D. (2012) from the Georgia Institute of Technology, both in physics.
Before pursuing his Ph.D., Aden worked at the Georgia Tech Research Institute as a member of the light detection and ranging (LiDAR) team. LiDAR is a system similar to radar but which uses a laser beam in place of radar’s radio or microwave beam. The systems Aden worked to design, build, and operate were focused on measuring the density of aerosols at different levels of the atmosphere and the light attenuation caused by atmospheric aerosols. Aden also conducted research on the structural properties of metal hydrides in order to understand the feasibility of using metal hydrides as a solid state hydrogen storage option for use with fuel cells. His Ph.D. research focused on computational astrophysics, where he assisted with planning the observing program of the recently launched NASA mission the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR), the first imaging very hard X-ray telescope. Aden is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Aden is also a member of the American Physical Society.
