Sam Gunn

• Argued an appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit resulting in the vacating and remanding of a Trademark Trial and Appeal Board decision on the registrability of a trademark that was primarily merely a surname.
• Represented a pet health supplement manufacturer in several false advertising lawsuits in federal court.
• Represented bank clients in finance transactions involving the purchase of musical compositions and sound recordings in order to ensure security interests were perfected.
• Represented an insurance company in a trademark infringement case against several telemarketing companies.
• Represented a clothing manufacturer in a trade dress infringement case against a national department store chain.
• Represented a health supplement manufacturer in several trademark counterfeiting cases against domestic and foreign defendants.
• Represented television production company defendants in a case alleging copyright infringement over the use of a musical composition.
• Represented a software company defendant in a case alleging copyright infringement over the use of software.
• Represented a motorsports entertainment company in a trademark opposition proceeding before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
• Represented clients in several domain name proceedings under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.

Uly Samuel Gunn is counsel on the Intellectual Property Litigation Group – Trademark & Copyright Team. He focuses his practice on trademark and copyright enforcement, litigation, prosecution, and counseling. Most recently, Sam worked for a large private company in the diverse areas of consumer retail tableware, professional food service, apparel fiber, machine learning and data analytics, packaging and cellulose, agricultural chemicals, industrial chemical refining, transport logistics, and building glass.

Sam received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the Duke University School of Law, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. During law school, Sam served on the editorial board of the Duke Law Journal. Sam also received the Faculty Award for Intellectual Property & Technology Law. Sam received his B.A. in English and A.B.J. in journalism from the University of Georgia.
