Matthew K. Johnson

• Represented a national bank in the origination of a mortgage loan in the principal amount of $250 million secured by the borrowers’ fee and leasehold interests in an office tower where the borrowers executed reverse 1031 exchange.
• Represented national banks in the origination of mortgage and mezzanine loans in the aggregate principal amount of $1.1 billion covering a portfolio of over 40 properties in 20 states.
• Represented a national bank on the senior portion of a $1 billion debt stack secured by a Times Square office tower.
• Represented an institutional debt fund in a nationwide program encompassing the workout, restructuring and foreclosure of both securitized and portfolio mortgage and mezzanine loans.

Matthew K. Johnson is a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Group and concentrates his practice in commercial real estate finance. Matthew represents investment banks, commercial banks, debt funds, and life insurance companies in the origination, securitization, syndication, and sale of commercial real estate loans, including loans with leasehold, sub-leasehold, condominium, tenancy-in-common, and 1031-exchange structures. His expertise extends to mezzanine financing, subordinate debt structures, and the restructuring, workout, and foreclosure of loans.

Matthew received his J.D. with honors from George Washington University, where he was a Thurgood Marshall Scholar and worked on the George Washington International Law Review. Matthew graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in finance from Virginia Tech in 2012.
