• Represented a European telecommunications company in a billion-dollar ICC arbitration over a dispute regarding the appropriate F/RAND compensation for a portfolio of cellular standard essential patents with favorable results for the client.
• Represented a Taiwanese technology company in an ICC arbitration over a failed joint venture for the manufacture of consumer electronic devices with favorable results for the client.
• Represented a major European technology company in multimillion-dollar ICC arbitration in New York over the scope of a patent license agreement with favorable results for the client.
• Represented a technology manufacturing company in ICC arbitration in Istanbul over a dispute with a distributor over the alleged termination of a distribution agreement with favorable results for the client.
• Represented a manufacturer in an AAA ICDR arbitration over a breach of a software development agreement with favorable results for the client.
• Represented a manufacturing company in ICC arbitration in Geneva over the alleged breach of a franchise agreement with favorable results for the client.

Matt Richardson is a co-chair of the Litigation & Trial Practice Group and co-chair of the International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution practice. He focuses his practice both on international arbitration and complex commercial litigation. Matt has represented clients in ICC, AAA ICDR, SCC, HKIAC, and ad hoc arbitrations throughout the world. He has represented clients in a broad range of international commercial arbitrations in the areas of intellectual property (including copyright, patent, and disputes over F/RAND compensation), construction, energy, telecommunications, consumer electronics, and manufacturing.

Matt also has extensive experience in litigation related to enforcement of international arbitration agreements and awards.  He has also defended health care companies, software developers, and technology manufacturers in litigation in federal courts around the country. Matt was ranked as one of the top international arbitration lawyers by Chambers USA 2022 and The Best Lawyers in America^® 2018–2026.

Before working at Alston & Bird, Matt served as a law clerk for the Hon. J. Owen Forrester of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
