Matt Welch represents domestic and international technology companies in patent and trademark disputes. He litigates before district courts, the International Trade Commission, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the Federal Circuit. His matters frequently involve network infrastructure, optical and fiber based technologies, consumer electronics, and connected home products. Drawing on prior clerkships at the trial and appellate levels and a technical background in mechanical engineering, Matt focuses on developing clear, technically grounded arguments in high stakes intellectual property disputes.
Matt is a former law clerk for the Honorable Robert J. Conrad, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina and the Honorable Kimberly A. Moore, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Wake Forest University School of Law, Order of the Coif, and his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, summa cum laude, from Clemson University.
