Based just steps from the London Stock Exchange and next to the historic St. Paul’s Cathedral in the City, Alston & Bird’s London office sits at the epicenter of the world’s financial hub.

Our London office supports the firm’s U.S. clients doing business in the UK and EU, local clients transacting in the U.S., and multinational clients conducting business globally with three of the firm’s prominent practice groups: Finance, Competition/Antitrust, and Payments. Partnered with their U.S.- and Brussels-based colleagues and an extensive global network of specialists, our London teams serve clients across the world in transactions, litigation, investigations, and regulatory compliance.

Our Finance attorneys advise financial institutions and funds in real estate and asset finance. They handle a wide range of transactions related to real estate private equity, commercial mortgage-backed securities, lending, restructuring, and debt and equity workouts. Our clients range from private equity firms, noteholder groups, and bond issuers to lenders, property investors, and sovereign wealth funds.

Our Competition team advises clients involved in complex, cross-border merger and joint venture activity, especially in the payment systems and financial services sector. Working in close coordination with our U.S.-based antitrust team, our London-based competition team counsels clients on UK and EU compliance issues, including counseling clients before the antitrust agencies in transactions, industry investigations, cartels, and state-aid matters, and frequently work from our Brussels office.

With the UK consolidating its position as a world leader in digital banking and other payments channels, our payments attorneys strengthen our London office as a leading platform to advise clients across the UK, EU, and world on transactions, product development, and regulatory issues related to retail and wholesale payments systems and products.
