Alston & Bird Named One of Fortune’s Best Places to Work for Women

For the third consecutive year, Alston & Bird has been recognized by Fortune magazine as one of the country’s top employers for women.

In Fortune’s 2017 “100 Best Workplaces for Women,” Alston & Bird ranks No. 77 and is one of only four law firms highlighted in the survey for setting the standard for work-life practices in the United States.

“Having a diverse and inclusive workforce is critical to meeting the needs of our clients, our people, and our communities,” said Richard Hays, Alston & Bird managing partner. “Ours is a culture that is based on equality, purpose, and mutual trust and respect, where we celebrate individual differences while uniting in the common goal of helping our clients succeed.”

The ranking is the result of an anonymous survey by Great Place to Work® of more than 400,000 women across multiple companies and industries. The survey looked at 50 different metrics defining great workplaces across hundreds of businesses in all sectors of the economy, including ethical leadership, respectful and fair workplace interactions, great benefits and development, and strong caring and personal support. The survey results meet a 95 percent confidence level and a margin of error of 7 percent.

“At Alston & Bird, women comprise more than half our workforce and hold more than 70 percent of executive staff roles,” said Cathy Benton, the firm’s chief human resources officer. “Great things happen when everyone knows they have a voice, feels valued, and sees what they do makes a difference.”

In addition to the Fortune ranking, Alston & Bird has received a number of other recent accolades highlighting the firm’s distinctive culture, including:

  • Honored as one of Fortune’s 2017 “100 Best Companies to Work For®,” the 18th consecutive year that the firm has been singled out by the magazine for its exceptional workplace culture.
  • Recognized in People magazine’s first-ever survey of the top “50 Companies That Care” and demonstrate respect, compassion, and concern for their communities, their employees, and the environment.
  • Rated 100 percent in the Human Rights Campaign’s 2017 “Corporate Equality Index,” which measures commitment to LGBT workplace equality, the 13th consecutive year that the firm has earned a perfect score.

"The Best Workplaces for Women deserve recognition for crafting environments where men and women alike can bring their best selves to work each day,” said Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work.
