Alston & Bird: Celebrating 20 Years as a Fortune “Best Workplace”

For the 20th consecutive year, Alston & Bird has been honored by Fortune magazine in its annual survey of America’s “100 Best Companies to Work For®” – marking a significant milestone in the firm’s national recognition as a champion of corporate culture and workplace excellence.

Now in its 22nd year, the survey ranks Alston & Bird No. 53. As in previous years, the firm is one of only a handful of law firms recognized in the rankings. It is also the only law firm to be showcased in the survey 20 years in a row.

“To be designated a top workplace for 20 years running is a remarkable feat,” said Alston & Bird Chairman and Managing Partner Richard Hays. “Not only does it demonstrate the resilience of our culture, but it also shows just how powerful culture can be as a driver in differentiating our firm and our people among clients and the communities we serve.”

Conducted in partnership with Great Place to Work®, the survey canvassed Alston & Bird employees across a number of areas that are key to a winning culture – including values, leadership, trust, and camaraderie – with 94 percent saying the firm is a great place to work. The ranking accounted for the experiences of all employees across job levels, tenure, and demographic categories such as age, race, and gender.

“Success is a team sport requiring contribution, collaboration, cooperation, communication, and commitment,” said Cathy Benton, Alston & Bird chief human resources officer. “All are essential to success, yet none would be possible without our strong culture of trust, mutual respect, and empowerment.”

In addition to this ranking, Alston & Bird has received a number of other recent accolades highlighting the firm’s distinctive culture, including:

  • Recognition by Forbes as one of “America’s Best Employers” for the second year in a row and one of only four law firms featured in the publication’s annual listing of the best places to work.
  • A top rating of 100 percent in the Human Rights Campaign’s 2018 “Corporate Equality Index,” which measures commitment to LGBTQ workplace equality, the 14th consecutive year that the firm has earned a perfect score.
  • Placement in Fortune’s 2018 survey of the “100 Best Workplaces for Diversity,” the second time in three years the firm has been included in the rankings.

“The 2019 100 Best are the leaders in creating the most innovative workplaces built on trust,” said Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work. “Employees at these organizations feel valued, respected, and heard, and are inspired to be their best selves because of the commitment these winning companies have made to creating a great workplace for all employees, no matter who they are or what they do for the company.”
