- Patent litigation counsel to two of the largest cellular communications and infrastructure companies in the world, and successfully litigated dozens of patent cases in federal district courts and the ITC involving telecommunication technologies.
- Represented all major U.S. wireless carriers in multiple district court matters, all of which yielded either favorable settlements or jury verdicts in clients’ favor.
- Defended the leading provider of photon emission tomography scanning equipment against a multimillion-dollar patent infringement claim. Obtained summary judgment of noninfringement and affirmance of the district court ruling by the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.
International Trade Commission
- Lead counsel to complainants Nokia Corporation and Nokia Technologies Oy against Amazon and HP, Inc. in a pair of actions regarding video coding standards including H.264, H.265, and AV1. Early settlement was achieved with HP, and Initial Determination found that Amazon infringed five of seven asserted patents. The ALJ separately recommended that the ITC issue an exclusion order against Amazon products that infringed Nokia’s essential video coding patents. Certain Video Capable Electronic Devices, Including Computers, Streaming Devices, Televisions, and Components and Modules Thereof, Inv. Nos. 337-TA-1379, -1380.
- Lead counsel to complainant Ericsson in an action asserting claims of infringement of cellular 5G SEPs against Lenovo. Initial Determination found that Lenovo infringed all four asserted patents. Certain Mobile Phones, Components Thereof, and Products Containing Same, Inv. No. 337-TA-1375.
- Lead counsel to respondents Nokia Corporation and Alcatel Submarine Networks in an action regarding submarine fiber-optic transmission systems. Certain Subsea Telecommunications Systems and Components Thereof, Inv. No. 337-TA-1098.
- Lead counsel to complainant Nokia against Apple in separate ITC actions involving cellular communication chipsets and antenna design. Cases were resolved pursuant to a global settlement on very favorable terms. Certain Electronic Devices, Including Mobile Phones, Tablet Computers, and Components Thereof, Inv. Nos. 337-TA-1038 and -1039.
- Represented complainant Nokia in multiple offensive investigations brought against HTC Corporation and HTC America Inc. Due in part to favorable infringement findings, global settlement was reached. Inv. Nos. 337-TA-847, 885.
- Represented respondent Nokia in multiple investigations brought by InterDigital asserting patents allegedly essential to 3G and 4G cellular standards. The ITC found no violation by Nokia in each of the three investigations.
- Represented Nokia in multiple investigations against Apple over patents relating to computer and smart phone technology. No violation was found against Nokia in either investigation, and the parties ultimately reached a global settlement. Inv. Nos. 337-TA-704, 710.
- Represented Nokia in a patent infringement dispute against Qualcomm involving 2G wireless standards. Certain Telephone Handsets, Wireless Communication Devices, and Components Thereof, Inv. No. 337-TA-578.
