Chris Ziegler is counsel in Alston & Bird’s Intellectual Property Patents Group and has experience before federal courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board at the USPTO. His experience informs the patent prosecution and portfolio management advice he gives his patent clients. He also provides intellectual property counseling for mergers and acquisitions involving IP assets, open source software, and IP licensing. He has experience in technologies such as telecommunication systems, fiber optics, wireless networks, computing systems, security systems, the Internet of Things, semiconductor design, automobiles, airplanes, sonar systems, consumer products, telemedicine, and medical devices.
Chris received his J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where he served as a senior managing editor of the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies. Before law school, Chris completed his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at Purdue University. Chris complemented his studies with internships at an international medical software company and an international telecommunication solutions provider. Following his undergraduate studies, Chris received an MBA from Kansas University, where he concentrated on finance and international business.
Before entering law school, Chris worked for over half a decade at an engineering consulting firm, where he was responsible for the electrical power design for multiple power plants. Chris also received, and still maintains, his professional engineering license in the state of Kansas.
