Please join us for a webinar on “AB 5 and Independent Contracting in California: What You Need to Know Before January 1, 2020.”
On September 18, 2019, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 5 (AB 5). The law, which goes into effect on January 1, 2020, implements the so-called “ABC” test that will be used to determine whether a worker should be classified as an independent contractor or employee. Proponents of AB 5 assert that it will bring needed relief to many workers who have allegedly been misclassified by their employers. But for many companies that do business in California across a variety of industries, AB 5 will disrupt business models and result in significant legal exposure and liability.
This webinar will provide an overview of how AB 5 became law, identify those businesses and industries that are both “safe” and “at risk” from the reach of AB 5, and most importantly, discuss strategies on how best to minimize legal risk and exposure.
This program is approved for 1 hour of CLE credit. CLE credit is provided for California, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, New York, and Texas. Additional states may be available upon request.
