On July 1, 2024, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation to reform the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA), impacting both workers and employers. PAGA is an integral part of California labor law. It authorizes aggrieved employees to file lawsuits to recover civil penalties on behalf of themselves, other employees, and the State of California for Labor Code violations.
Ian Wright and Kaitlin Owen will provide an in-depth analysis of the reforms to PAGA, provide guidance on what employers need to look out for with the changes in effect, and discuss how employers can take advantage of the new PAGA’s penalty mitigation provisions.
