Following Governor Jerry Brown’s order for mandatory consumer water conservation, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California voted to cut deliveries to its 26 member agencies by 15 percent.
Ed Casey, partner in Alston & Bird’s Environment, Land Use & Natural Resources Group who specializes in water issues as they relate to development projects, said that the board was trying to use pricing to further conservation.
“Now those 26 member agencies must come up with their own pricing structures,” said Casey. “It will all flow down to us in the public and make people realize what the true cost of water is in the state of California.”
