Alston & Bird and TIAA Team Up for 6th Annual “Wills for Schools”

Alston & Bird partnered with TIAA, a Fortune 100 financial services organization, for the 6th annual “Wills for Schools” program, a one-day clinic that provides North Carolina public school employees and their families with free wills, estate planning, powers of attorney, and health care powers of attorney.

“Alston & Bird is proud to continue this tradition of helping North Carolina’s educators,” said Brian Ellsworth, partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group and pro bono chair of the Charlotte office. “Our public schools and employees offer an invaluable service to our children and communities with limited resources. Donating our time and legal advice is one small way we can thank them for their hard work and commitment.”

“TIAA is proud to participate in the Wills for Schools initiative because it serves those whose serve others,” said Jarian Kerekes, Director, Corporate Social Responsibility, TIAA. “TIAA was created to serve nearly 100 years ago, and we appreciate the opportunity to work with Alston & Bird to provide these critical services to educators and their families here in Charlotte.”

The project brought together more than 100 volunteers from Alston & Bird and TIAA to prepare wills and other legal documents. The team completed estate planning and powers of attorney documents for 200 school teachers, employees, and their families, with an estimated pro bono value of more than $300,000.
