Alston & Bird Ranked Among Most Active Patent Trial and Appeal Board Firms

Alston & Bird has been spotlighted as one of the country’s most active law firms representing both petitioners and patent owners before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

In Managing Intellectual Property’s survey of PTAB petitions filed in 2017, Alston & Bird ranks No. 10 in overall PTAB proceedings, with a total of 71 – more than double the firm’s prior-year tally. The firm also receives top billing for representing petitioners, with 38 cases, and patent owners, with 33 cases.

Additionally, partners Ben Pleune and Chris Douglas and associate Lauren Burrow were recognized among the most active individual attorneys in PTAB proceedings in 2017.

Alston & Bird is consistently recognized as one of the country’s leading law firms in patent litigation before the PTAB, U.S. International Trade Commission, and federal courts. Most recently, Unified Patents highlighted the firm as one of the nation’s most winning law firms representing patent owners in PTAB petitions.

Managing Intellectual Property generated its rankings by analyzing Docket Navigator data on PTAB petitions filed in 2017 and cataloguing the most active entities and law firms. Alston & Bird has been listed each year since the report’s initial publication in 2015.
