Alston & Bird has been recognized by Koch Industries with its inaugural “Pro Bono Innovation Award” for going above and beyond in joining with Koch in support of its mission to advance pro bono in 2021.
The award, which was made as part of the “2021 Koch Pro Bono Awards,” honored Alston & Bird for creating new ways to partner with Koch in areas that are important to both organizations. Singled out by Koch was Alston & Bird’s support for The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program, which assists veterans in pursuing upgrades to their discharge status in order to obtain benefits and other resources. For their outstanding record of service, Alston & Bird and Koch were honored together by The Veterans Consortium with its “2021 Law Firm/Corporate Pro Bono Mission Partner” award on November 4, 2021.
The Koch pro bono award also recognized Alston & Bird for its partnership in supporting the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth (CFSY), a national coalition and clearinghouse that advocates reforms to ban life without parole and other extreme sentences for children. The joint effort focuses on developing a guide for CFSY to assist formerly incarcerated individuals who were sentenced while they were juveniles in successfully reentering society when they are released as adults.
The awards ceremony took place at Koch’s headquarters in Wichita, KS, on November 10, 2021. Accepting the award on behalf of Alston & Bird were partners Doug Scribner and Mary Benton.
