Alston & Bird Wins Four Categories in The Deal Awards 2021

Alston & Bird is pleased to announce that three financial services and private equity deals advised by the firm have been recognized by The Deal Awards 2021. In addition, Chris Frieden, partner in the firm’s Financial Services & Products Group, was named “Financial Services Dealmaker of the Year (Middle Market).” 

The category and deal winners include:

  • “Private Equity Deal of the Year (Large Cap)Thoma Bravo sells Ellie Mae to Intercontinental Exchange.” Alston & Bird represented Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC as the financial advisor to Intercontinental Exchange in its $11 billion acquisition of Ellie Mae. Advising Credit Suisse was partner Stuart Rogers of the firm’s Financial Advisors Practice.
  • “Private Equity Deal of the Year (Middle Market)Falfurrias Capital sells American Safety Council to Ridgemont.” Alston & Bird client Ridgemont Equity Partners acquired American Safety Council, a national leader in online workforce training, education, and certification, from private equity firm Falfurrias Capital. Mark Kelly, partner in the firm’s Corporate & Business Transactions Group, led the deal for Ridgemont.
  • “Financial Services Deal of the Year (Large Cap)Charles Schwab acquires brokerage TD Ameritrade.” Alston & Bird represented Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC as the financial advisor to Charles Schwab Corp. in its $22 billion takeover of TD Ameritrade. Advising Credit Suisse were partners Kevin Miller and Stuart Rogers of the firm’s Financial Advisors Practice.

Frieden was honored as “Financial Services Dealmaker of the Year (Middle Market)” for his “quality and volume of transactions as well as breadth of expertise in dealmaking.” He guides banks, mortgage companies, and wealth management and investment advisory firms through complex business combination and securities transactions and has extensive experience in advising public company and privately held clients on strategic transactions, corporate governance issues, and other corporate and securities matters.

The Deal Awards celebrate the “advisers, professionals, firms, and banks driving the market forward” in activism, mergers, acquisitions, private equity, and restructuring. Deals under consideration were announced or completed between Jan. 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2020, and involved at least one party based in the United States.
