Matt Binder focuses his practice on defending clients in products liability, consumer class action, toxic tort, mass tort, and other complex litigation matters. He is also experienced in trade secret and copyright infringement cases. In both state and federal court and in arbitration, Matt has defended companies in an array of industries, including pharmaceuticals, health care, and consumer products. Before joining the firm, Matt was a managing associate in the litigation group of an international law firm.
Matt collaborates with trial teams throughout all stages of litigation, including preparing dispositive and discovery motions, motions in limine, and Frye and Daubert motions. He has managed all aspects of written discovery, argued in federal court, briefed and argued motions for temporary restraining orders, and briefed appeals. Matt has extensive experience working with both expert and company witnesses—including corporate representative witnesses—and has taken and defended depositions.
Matt is involved in the firm’s efforts to recruit and mentor incoming lawyers and is a contributor to the quarterly Toxic (Re)Tort. Matt received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School where he was an articles editor for the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform. He received a B.A., summa cum laude, from Wabash College, where he received the Junior Peck Medal for Promise in the Law and the McClain Prize in Classics.
