I was drawn to Alston & Bird because of its tradition of great clients and firm prestige across the country. I also felt that despite the miles between the offices, that there was a strong connection between each one of them. I know its cliché, but it really is a collegial environment within the LA office and between ALL the offices. The firm is very committed to keeping its lawyers and staff informed. There are associates and firm meetings to keep everyone apprised of what the firm is up to as well as numerous other types of informational sessions such as how Alston & Bird is staying “Green”, pro bono training, marketing seminars, etc. I also really enjoy the numerous training opportunities within my practice group.

I was initially drawn to A&B by its robust energy regulatory practice. While I had been told by former colleagues and law school friends, read A&B alumni, that the people at the firm were the true draw, I chalked that up to clever marketing. Turns out they were right. My interview convinced me that not only would I be working with an excellent group of lawyers, but that I would also have the opportunity to work for and with attorneys who would take an active stake in my development as not only an A&B associate but generally as an attorney. Since joining the firm I’ve enjoyed opportunities to integrate myself into the energy group by working with multiple partners on various aspects of their practice, from FERC audits, to nuclear decommissioning cases, and requests for Commission approval of jurisdictional transactions. I’ve also felt very welcome to the DC office and the firm as a whole, whether through firm sponsored events or the occasional attorney or staff member stopping by my office to say hello. While initially drawn by the opportunity to work with a very talented group of energy professionals, I have been pleased to find a firm culture that embraces a holistic view of diversity and inclusion as a means of fostering professionalism, client service, and mentorship.
