Alston & Bird Adds Senior Senate Aide in Washington, D.C.

Alston & Bird has added Theodore “Ted” Schroeder to its Washington, D.C., office as counsel in the firm’s Legislative & Public Policy Group.

Schroeder comes to Alston & Bird after six years of service to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. Most recently, he was chief counsel to Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), a positon he held for the past five years. In addition to serving as chief policy advisor on judiciary and telecommunications issues, he was an active participant in congressional debates on intellectual property – including patent reform, trade secret protection, copyright licensing, and trademarks – as well as antitrust, cybersecurity and oversight and reform of the federal civil and bankruptcy court systems. He also assisted Sen. Coons with matters pending before the Appropriations Committee relating to financial services, the FCC, SEC, FTC, IRS and GSA.

Previously, Schroeder served as chief counsel to former U.S. Sen. Ted Kaufman (D-DE). Before that, he was in private practice as an associate at O’Melveny & Myers LLP in Washington, D.C.

“Our firm is fortunate to include not only former leaders of Congress but also senior attorneys who are highly respected Capitol Hill veterans,” said Bob Jones, Alston & Bird partner and leader of the firm’s Legislative & Public Policy Group. “Ted’s experience and keen knowledge of government policymaking will not only expand our ability to work with members of Congress, as well as with the Executive Branch, but will also help ensure our clients here in D.C. and across our global network reach favorable legislative, public policy and regulatory outcomes.”

Schroeder is the latest addition to Alston & Bird’s Washington office. Last October, the firm welcomed former U.S. Justice Department official John Snyder as antitrust partner and in July added partner Daniel Jarcho, who represents clients in federal trial court and appellate litigation involving federal regulatory issues.

Alston & Bird’s Legislative & Public Policy Group advises and works with clients in a bipartisan, bicameral manner on key issues at the intersection of business and public policy objectives. Spearheading the group are former Congressional leaders – Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-KS) and Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-ND) – supported by a full-service team of lawyers and professionals who offer client service built upon decades of experience at the highest levels of Washington policymaking.
