Rosemarie Thurston, partner and leader of Alston & Bird’s REITs and Real Estate Funds Team, has been named to Connect Media’s 2019 “Women in Real Estate” for the Atlanta/Southeast region, an elite group of commercial real estate leaders.
Thurston focuses her practice on advising public and private real estate firms on complex securities matters, including leading more than $50 billion in capital-raising transactions in recent years.
As noted by the publication: “Thurston’s REIT Team is one of the most active in the nation in registrations of securities offerings with the SEC. She regularly advises and represents public REITs involving almost every asset class, including office, industrial, retail, multifamily, hospitality, medical, timber, data centers and mortgage and specialty finance.”
Thurston was also recognized for her track record of ingenuity and innovation related to real estate investment trusts (REITs). Among her achievements, she was instrumental in obtaining regulatory approval from the Internal Revenue Service allowing REITs to offer multiple share classes, which has now become the industry standard.
Thurston was further highlighted for her role in spearheading the development of the perpetual-life, net asset value REIT, an open-ended real estate fund marketed to individual investors. The product is now viewed as “best of class” for its investor-friendly features.
In addition to this award, Thurston was recently named a “2019 Legal Counsel of the Year” in commercial real estate by the Real Estate Forum and GlobeSt.com.
