Rosemarie Thurston, partner in Alston & Bird’s Financial Services & Products Group and leader of the firm’s REITs and Real Estate Funds Team, has been inducted into the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics Alumni Hall of Fame.
The prestigious lifetime award recognizes Gatton alumni who have earned exceptional success in their careers and in their communities.
A member of Alston & Bird’s Management Committee, Thurston leads a REITs (real estate investment trusts) team that is one of the most active in the country in registrations of debt and equity offerings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, having advised on more than $50 billion in capital-raising transactions in recent years. Thurston also represents clients in private placements, mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, and joint ventures. Her clients include real estate companies, underwriters, real estate funds, and investment management firms.
Active in industry circles, Thurston is a member of the associate board of governors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (Nareit) and board member of the Institute for Portfolio Alternatives.
Thurston is also a frequent speaker on issues relevant to the REIT and alternative investment fund industry. In 2020, she was featured in a Nareit video on the trend of REITs switching from external to internal management teams to promote greater cost-effectiveness.
In addition to her Gatton Alumni Hall of Fame recognition, Thurston was recognized as a 2019 “Legal Counsel of the Year” in commercial real estate by the Real Estate Forum and GlobeSt.com and named to Connect Media’s 2019 “Women in Real Estate” for the Atlanta/Southeast region. She is also the recipient of the 2016 “Outstanding Service Award” from the Institute for Portfolio Alternatives.
Thurston was welcomed into the hall of fame in a virtual event on May 27.
