Alston & Bird Secures Complete Defense Win on Behalf of Real Estate Brokerage, Redfin Corporation

Alston & Bird secured a clean-sweep jury verdict for its clients Redfin and Matterport in patent litigation before Judge Albright in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, Waco Division.

After a short deliberation, the jury returned a verdict that all 10 asserted claims of U.S. Patent Nos. 9,836,885, 10,102,673, 10,510,111, and 10,592,973 are invalid and not infringed by Redfin’s 3D Walkthrough tours powered by Matterport. The plaintiffs alleged that Redfin infringed these patents related to 3D home tours and sought damages from Redfin exceeding $66 million.

Leading the matter for Alston & Bird was partner M. Scott Stevens, assisted by associates Nicholas Marais and Karlee Wroblewski, of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation group.

The case is Appliance Computing III, Inc. v. Redfin Corporation, No. 6:20-cv-00376, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, Waco Division.
