Alston & Bird Adds Leading Antitrust Partner in Brussels

Alston & Bird has augmented its Antitrust Team with partner Dr. Jens-Olrik Murach, who will reside in the firm’s Brussels office. Jens’s practice encompasses the full range of EU antitrust issues across a broad array of industries.

“We are delighted to welcome Jens, whose arrival brings a unique opportunity to expand our antitrust and regulatory practices in the EU,” said partner Matthew D. Kent, co-leader of Alston & Bird’s Antitrust Team. “With our well-established antitrust capabilities in the U.S. and in the UK, Jens’s presence in the EU helps round out that offering and also provides more robust support to attorneys across our offices who work on cross-border transactions.”

Jens’s move from Willkie Farr & Gallagher to Alston & Bird follows competition partner and payments industry advisor James Ashe-Taylor joining Alston & Bird’s London office when it opened in 2019.

“Throughout the EU and well beyond, competition laws continue to evolve, enforcement is becoming more aggressive, and foreign investments face increasingly complex regulation,” said Wim Nauwelaerts, partner-in-charge of Alston & Bird’s Brussels office. “Jens brings more than two decades of experience, global perspective, and a collaborative approach to help clients navigate this increasingly dynamic and intricate business environment.”

Jens advises on merger control, foreign direct investment, and foreign subsidies matters as well as on antitrust investigations before the European Commission and numerous other bodies. He helps clients navigate the regulatory environment in Europe, and works on related litigation and compliance matters. His broad experience includes significant transatlantic matters.

“I am impressed with Alston & Bird’s seamless integration of resources from across the firm to assemble teams that deliver excellent results for clients,” said Jens. “Collaboration is key to successful antitrust work, and I’m very excited to join forces with my new colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Alston & Bird’s Antitrust Team handles cross-border deals, compliance matters, and investigations on several continents. They have worked with regulators at every level – including the DOJ, FTC, and state attorneys general, as well as competition agencies in the European Union, Korea, and Japan.
