Look Ahead to the Week of June 1, 2026 | Administration’s ‘Anti-Weaponization Fund’ Dispute Delays Congressional Agenda

Alston & Bird’s Legislative & Public Policy Group previews the week ahead highlighting anticipated federal legislative, regulatory, and political activity, and key upcoming actions in Congress, the Administration, and relevant policy arenas.

Administration

  • Negotiations to end the war between the United States and Iran appear to have stalled after President Trump signaled he will not rush the process. American and Iranian forces exchanged strikes over the weekend.
  • Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy remain divided over a DHS proposal to stop processing passengers arriving on international flights to sanctuary cities.
  • Primary elections will be held in California, Iowa, New Jersey, South Dakota, Montana, and New Mexico on Tuesday.

House

  • The House will return Wednesday for votes, canceling Tuesday’s planned session.
  • The Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on national data privacy and data security legislation on Wednesday.
  • The House is expected to vote this week on the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agency Appropriations Act.

Senate

  • Senate Republican leadership hopes to hold a vote-a-rama Wednesday evening, followed by Thursday passage of its party-line immigration enforcement reconciliation bill. Resolving Republican concerns over the $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization fund” remains a major hurdle.
  • Negotiations over a long-term agreement on Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act continue ahead of the law’s June 12 expiration date.
  • The timing of floor votes on House-passed housing legislation and the Farm Bill remains unclear.
