Look Ahead to the Week of June 22, 2026 | Trump to Huddle with Senate GOP as To-Do List Lengthens

Alston & Bird’s Legislative & Public Policy Group previews the week ahead highlighting anticipated federal legislative, regulatory, and political activity, and key upcoming actions in Congress, the Administration, and relevant policy arenas.

Administration

  • Vice President JD Vance is returning to the United States from Switzerland after participating in weekend talks with top Iranian leaders. While officials reported progress, ongoing Israeli-Hezbollah fighting continues to strain negotiations.
  • North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Mark Rutte will meet with President Trump in Washington on Wednesday and with Members of Congress on Thursday ahead of the 2026 NATO Summit in Turkey, scheduled for July 7-8.

House

  • The House returns Tuesday and is expected to vote on the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act and the National Security and Department of State Appropriations Act, along with measures affecting veterans and small businesses.
  • House Energy and Commerce Committee leaders are set to announce a bipartisan proposal aimed at protecting children from online harms. The Senate Commerce Committee plans to mark up its own version next month, with lawmakers targeting a compromise in mid-July.
  • Senior House Republicans plan to meet Wednesday to begin budget resolution negotiations aimed at a third reconciliation bill. Several Senate Republicans remain skeptical that another party-line bill can pass this year.

Senate

  • President Trump will attend the Senate Republican weekly lunch amid ongoing tensions over the SAVE America Act, reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), and the confirmation process for the next Director of National Intelligence.
  • The Senate is expected to vote Monday evening on passage of a revised version of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. If approved, the measure would return to the House before heading to the President in the coming days.
