Look Ahead to the Week of June 29, 2026 | Ambitious House Agenda Faces Continued SAVE Act Roadblock

Alston & Bird’s Legislative & Public Policy Group previews the week ahead highlighting anticipated federal legislative, regulatory, and political activity, and key upcoming actions in Congress, the Administration, and relevant policy arenas.

Administration

  • Congress is expected to send the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act to the President on Monday. Although President Trump has not signaled whether he will sign or veto the housing deregulation bill, it would become law around July 10 if he takes no action after receiving it on Monday.
  • Military strikes between Iran and the United States over the weekend are jeopardizing a temporary peace deal. As tensions continue, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to deliver an unclassified briefing to the full House and Senate today on the initial peace framework.

House

  • Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL-13) may continue blocking House floor proceedings this week over the Senate’s failure to act on the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, despite President Trump’s request that she stand down.
  • The House is expected to vote on the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) this week. Over 1,300 amendments have been filed, including several related to the SAVE Act.
  • A bill to strengthen online protections for young users, the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act, could also receive a floor vote this week. The Senate is expected to consider similar legislation in committee next month.

Senate

  • The Senate is out of session until Monday, July 13.

U.S. Supreme Court

  • The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 Monday that states may accept mail-in ballots after polls close in federal races. The case, brought by the Department of Justice and the Republican National Committee, focused on the integrity of mail-in voting.
  • The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 Monday to expand presidential authority to remove top government officials, overturning a 1935 precedent that had protected the independence of federal agencies.
