Alston & Bird Adds Tax Partner with Investment Funds Focus in New York

Alston & Bird announced today that Chaim Stern has joined its Federal & International Tax Group as a partner in New York, bringing extensive experience advising investment firms on the tax aspects of fund formation, structuring, and transactions.

“We are excited to work with Chaim, who has an impressive background working on legal challenges and opportunities at the intersection of tax and investment funds,” said Kendall Houghton, Alston & Bird partner and chair of the Tax Area. “His unique perspective will benefit fund managers and private fund sponsors as they pursue sophisticated transactions and navigate complex onshore and offshore tax issues.”

Earlier in his career, Chaim spent more than 15 years in senior roles at Goldman Sachs, where he led tax planning for the firm’s alternative asset management business. In that capacity, Chaim advised on the structuring and launch of complex funds and investment vehicles, partnering closely with investment, legal and compliance teams across private equity, credit, hedge, real estate, and infrastructure strategies.

Chaim’s recruitment follows the recent additions of investment funds partners Heather Wyckoff, Sam Roh, and George Silfen in the New York office and Emily Stephens in the Los Angeles office, underscoring Alston & Bird’s recognized strength in delivering integrated tax and transactional counsel for fund clients.

“It’s an honor to collaborate with the distinguished attorneys in Alston & Bird’s globally respected tax platform and premier funds practice,” said Chaim. “With the firm’s robust capabilities and unwavering commitment to client service, I’m confident we’ll deliver innovative, practical solutions to address our clients’ most complex challenges.”

Alston & Bird’s tax practice is one of the largest and most respected in the country, offering sophisticated counsel across federal, international, and state and local tax matters. The firm’s attorneys advise clients across industries and geographies, supporting both transactional matters and stand-alone tax issues. With extensive experience in business transactions, dispute resolution, regulatory matters, and legislative initiatives, the firm helps clients navigate complex tax landscapes in the U.S. and abroad.
