- Represented multiple health care clients involved in ransomware attacks, requiring complex forensic investigation and extensive data review and restoration processes, as well as in follow-up regulatory inquiries.
- Advised multiple Fortune 500 and 1000 companies during complex, privileged computer crime investigations requiring a crisis response and legal analysis under state and federal laws. Specific engagements included data breaches, cyber-enabled fraud, business email compromise, and ransomware.
- Assisted health care plans and insurance companies in their incident response efforts and follow-up federal and state regulatory investigations.
- Resolved several HHS Office for Civil Rights HIPAA investigations without corrective action or monetary penalties.
- Served part time as interim general counsel for a 600+ bed academic medical center and health system.
- Identified controlling authority relied on by the court to uphold the constitutionality of tort reform provisions for hospital emergency rooms in an amicus curiae brief submitted to the Georgia Supreme Court on behalf of the Georgia Hospital Association. Gliemmo v. Cousineau, et al.

Angie Burnette is a problem solver who helps clients tackle HIPAA data breaches, security incidents and individual complaints under federal and state data privacy laws. She also helps clients respond to OCR HIPAA complaints, investigations, and compliance reviews, helping clients put their best foot forward to resolve regulatory inquiries. She also provides general risk management and compliance advice to a variety of health care facilities, providers, and health plans. Angie has also handled health care litigation matters, resolving matters at the trial and appellate levels, and various state professional licensing board complaints and investigations.
While at Alston & Bird, she has served both as temporary in-house counsel and as national coordinating counsel for two health care corporations. She has been an invited lecturer at Emory Law School on various health law topics, such as informed consent, HIPAA, and end-of-life issues. She’s a volunteer at Reality Changers, serving as a mentor for a first-generation college student. Angie has been ranked by The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Health Care Law since 2017. The University of Georgia School of Law awarded her entry into the Order of the Coif.
