Administration
- President Trump will visit a manufacturing site in Oakland County, Michigan today to give remarks on the economy before the state’s August 4 primary election.
- On Tuesday, the late Senator Lindsey Graham’s memorial service will be held at the National Cathedral. President Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are expected to attend.
- Oman mediated weekend talks between the United States and Iran, coinciding with three days without American strikes in the region. Ongoing talks hope to establish “mechanisms regarding maritime traffic” in the Strait of Hormuz.
House
- The House is out of session until September 1.
Senate
- The Senate is expected to amend the House-passed government funding bill with a bipartisan version this week, including anomalies requested by the White House.
- Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) will not act on the budget resolution, the first step in the reconciliation process, until the Senate has funded the government past September 30.
- The Senate will hold a procedural vote tonight on Jay Clayton to serve as Director of National Intelligence. Senate Republican leaders hope to have Clayton confirmed by the end of the week.
- Thursday morning, the Senate Judiciary Committee plans to vote on the nomination of Todd Blanche to serve as Attorney General. The votes of two key Judiciary Committee Republicans, Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Thom Tillis (R-NC), remain in doubt as they seek to obtain concessions from the White House before voting affirmatively.
