• Representing the country’s largest health care insurance company and pharmacy benefit manager in civil litigation, arbitrations, and congressional, DOJ, and state government investigations.
• Obtained declinations and victories for clients in False Claims Act investigations in every federal circuit and in states across the country.
• Served for five years as the independent compliance monitor for one of the world’s largest multinational pharmaceutical companies as part of its corporate integrity agreement with HHS-OIG.
• Represented the nation’s largest publicly traded hospital chain in civil and criminal investigations throughout the country involving health care fraud matters.
• Negotiated favorable settlements of many investigations and obtained judicial dismissal of one matter involving allegedly unauthorized medical procedures.
• Represented New Orleans hospitals in criminal investigations and congressional hearings related to their response to Hurricane Katrina, including allegations related to patient deaths in the immediate aftermath of the storm.
• Conducted numerous internal investigations related to alleged government fraud, FCPA issues, and antitrust matters for global health care and technology companies.

Selected by the Alston & Bird partnership to serve as the firm’s Managing Partner beginning in January 2027, Bill currently co-leads Alston & Bird’s 400-lawyer Global Litigation Area and the firm’s multipractice Health Care Industry Team. He handles complex corporate litigation, internal investigations, False Claims Act cases, and corporate ethics and compliance matters in health care, technology, and other sectors. Bill is consistently ranked in Chambers USA in Healthcare and White Collar Crime & Government Investigations, and he is recognized among The Best Lawyers in America^®.

Bill has represented clients in all aspects of the health care industry, including managed care companies, hospitals and health systems, pharmaceutical and life science companies, health IT and telehealth companies, long-term and post-acute care providers, labs, and ancillary service providers. These matters include a range of state, federal, and congressional investigations, litigation, arbitrations, class actions, and compliance matters.

Bill joined the firm directly out of law school and was called to government service in 2001, serving in senior roles in the DOJ’s Civil Division and the Associate Attorney General’s office, where he supervised litigation and investigations across the country. Bill returned to Alston & Bird in 2004. In addition to his current leadership roles, Bill was the co-leader of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Practice Group for eight years and served a term on the firm’s Partners Committee.

Bill is deeply involved in community and pro bono activities through serving on the boards of educational institutions and community organizations and in public service through his appointment to the Georgia State Ethics Commission.
